Walk Through Amsterdam’s Stories With Me
Walk the rhythm of Amsterdam — small-group tours through Amsterdam’s stories
Join me for a relaxed, small-group walk through Amsterdam — no rush, no crowds, just the city at your own pace.
We’ll pass famous landmarks and slip into quiet courtyards and hidden streets that most visitors miss. Along the way, I’ll share stories, local secrets, and the little details that make Amsterdam come alive.
Let’s Walk. Let’s Talk. I’ll Tell You the City’s Stories
Hi, I’m Nikolai. I didn’t start as a guide — I started as a storyteller.
For years, I built worlds behind the scenes in film and TV. Today, I craft stories on a different kind of stage: the streets of Amsterdam.
Every tour I lead is a conversation, not a script. No two walks are the same. You bring your questions and curiosity — I’ll bring the stories you won’t find in guidebooks.
If you’re looking for a slow, personal way to feel Amsterdam’s rhythm, not just see its sights — you’re in the right place.

Amsterdam in Stories

This walking tour takes you through some of Amsterdam’s oldest neighbourhoods — a mix of well-known sights and quiet streets that most visitors never see.
We’ll start near the city centre, where the canals and merchant houses tell the story of how this small trading port grew into something far bigger. From there, we’ll make our way into more peaceful corners: hidden courtyards, narrow alleys, and places with stories you won’t find on signs.
Along the way, I’ll share a mix of history, local habits, small details, and honest answers. You’ll hear about how the canals were built, why the buildings lean, and how life in the city has changed — and in some ways, hasn’t.
I keep the group small and the pace relaxed. We’ll have time to stop, ask questions, take photos, and notice things that might otherwise be missed. There’s no script, no rushing — just a real walk with a local who knows and loves the city.
Whether it’s your first time in Amsterdam or your fifth, this tour is a chance to slow down, see the city differently, and leave with stories you’ll actually remember.

Past and Present: An Amsterdam Walk

Discover how Amsterdam’s history shaped the streets we walk today – a relaxed small group tour linking past and present
If you’re visiting Amsterdam and want to really get a feel for the city — not just tick off the big sights — this tour offers a different kind of walk.
We’ll start where most people arrive: near the Central Station and the harbour, where the city first came to life centuries ago. From there, we’ll wander toward quieter streets, passing through neighbourhoods that still reflect the city’s layered past.
I’ll share stories about how Amsterdam grew — not just the famous Golden Age buildings, but also the working-class areas, Jewish history, migration, and daily life. We’ll talk about how the canals were built, why the houses lean the way they do, and how this small trading city became such a unique place.
We won’t rush. This isn’t a lecture or a script — it’s a relaxed, small-group walk where you’re welcome to ask anything, take your time, and follow your curiosity.
Whether you’ve been to Amsterdam before or it’s your first visit, I hope you’ll come away with a better sense of how the city really works — and maybe notice a few things other visitors miss.
Along the way, I’ll share a mix of history, local habits, small details, and honest answers. You’ll hear about how the canals were built, why the buildings lean, and how life in the city has changed — and in some ways, hasn’t.

Got a Question? We’ve Got Answers.
1. What kind of a tour is this?
What I know, I’ll gladly share.
What I don’t know… I’ll answer with full confidence anyway 😉
This is a relaxed, local Amsterdam walking experience, not a scripted tour.
2. How long does the tour last?
If the vibe is right, we might even pause for a coffee along the way ☕
It’s more about the experience than the stopwatch.
3. Is the tour suitable for children?
But if your child is a bit older — say 12 and up — and curious about the world, this tour might be a great fit.
We talk openly (like Amsterdam does): about history, daily life, and all the interesting stuff in between.
Not rude, but honest.
If that sounds like your kind of kid, you’re more than welcome.
4. Do I need to book in advance?
If you know your dates, go ahead and book.
If you’re not sure, send me a message — I’ll do my best to help you out.
5. How many people are in a group?
I keep it small on purpose — up to 10 people feels personal and flexible.
Beyond that, things start to feel distant… and I’d need a flag to keep us all together 😄
The only time we go larger is when it’s a private group — like a big family or a bunch of friends traveling together.
In any case, local rules allow a maximum of 15 participants per guide, and I always stay well within that.
6. What happens if it rains?
Sometimes the rain adds to the mood, and if it really pours, we’ll find a quiet spot to take cover.
It’s a good idea to check the weather forecast the night before. And if you’re not sure what to expect — feel free to message me. I’m happy to help.
7. Wheelchair accessible?
But this city is old and quirky, so a few spots might be narrow, uneven, or a bit tricky.
If you or someone in your group uses a wheelchair or has specific mobility needs, just let me know in advance.
I’ll do my best to adapt the route — and I’ll be honest about what’s realistic.
8. Can I book a private tour?
It’s a great option for families with teens, couples traveling together, or groups looking for something more personal (and yes, it works really well before or after a night out at the bar 😄).
Private tours give us the freedom to go at your pace, follow your interests, and take small detours when the moment feels right.
Just send me a message with your preferred date and group size — I’ll handle the rest.
9. Is it okay to join alone?
Besides, isn’t that part of why you came here alone? 😉
To meet people, see something different, and maybe walk a little off your usual path?
You won’t be the only one, and you definitely won’t feel out of place.
10. Where does the tour start and end?
You’ll get the exact meeting point when you book, and I’m always available if you need help finding it — plus, the Dutch are friendly if you get lost 😊
We usually stay within the central area — walking a lot, but not far in straight lines. Think zigzags, not kilometers.
The tour ends somewhere just as central, close to public transport, cafés, or your next destination.
If it’s a private tour, we can start and finish wherever it’s most convenient for you — hotel, ferry, or favorite bakery.
Need to cancel? No problem.
Just let me know at least 24 hours before your tour, and you’ll get a full refund.
Rare weather alerts (like Code Orange) may also lead me to cancel — and of course, you’ll get your money back.
